Nelson Literary Agency mainly represents fiction for both adult and young adult books. We work with literary and commercial fiction. For nonfiction, we are only interested in memoir and narrative nonfiction.
We are currently seeking:
- Literary (with a commercial bent)
- Commercial mainstream
- Women's fiction
- Chick lit (all types including paranormal, mystery, young adult etc.)
- Romance (all types including contemporary, historical, suspense, thriller, romantic comedy, paranormal/time travel, science fiction/futuristic, and fantasy with romantic elements)
- Science Fiction
- Fantasy
- Young Adult/Middle Grade (must be high concept and have a commercial bent)
- Memoir
- Narrative Nonfiction on all topics (such as Seabiscuit, The Perfect Storm, or
Friday Night Lights)

We do not look at submissions for screenplays, short story collections, poetry, horror, mystery (unless chick lit), thriller, children’s picture books, any nonfiction except as listed above, or material for the Christian/Inspirational market.
Please send us a one-page query letter by email to to gauge our level of interest. We do not accept snail mail queries. If we are interested, we will send you a reply email with explicit directions on how to upload sample pages to our electronic submission database. We are an environmentally-friendly, paper-free office.
Please put the word QUERY and the title of your project in the subject field of your email. We receive a lot of spam and following these simple directions will ensure that your query doesn't get accidentally deleted. No email attachments please. Expect a quick response to queries (5 to 10 days). Occasionally, it may take longer.
